Magical Week of Progress
It has truly been a magical week.
The IAHL conference offered many opportunities for connecting with leaders in this movement from around the world. As John McShane said, we're in the home stretch. The Tipping Point is near...how many metaphors can we use?
[Special thanks to Mari Frank for including me in her radio show taped at the conference. http://www.kuci.org/privacypiracy/]
The dinner honoring Steve Keeva was touching, both in witnessing the outpouring of love for Steve and in seeing his family realize the difference he has made. The ABA also announced that they're publishing the 10th Anniversary Edition of Transforming Practices this winter. They hope to have it out in time for Christmas gifts. To be notified of the release and for more information, open the attachment and follow the instructions.
After the conference, I went over to Kalamazoo, Michigan and visited with the Fetzer Institute on Tuesday. The meeting went well and we felt the spiritual support and we're developing a budget for some financial support. I look forward to a long working relationship with them. This should come together in early fall.
On Wednesday, I met with my editor at ABA Publications and we discussed the book I'm working on, tentatively entitled Lawyers as Peacemakers, a Practical Guide to Opportunities for Healthy, Whole Lawyers. I'm pleased to report that at least this arm of the ABA gets it! They want to be leaders in what they see is an inevitable evolution of the law. I'm excited about the book and hope to have the first draft ready in the fall so it can be published next spring.
And I made a nice connection with Chelsey Lambert of Total Attorney Practice Management Association, a new organization focused on attorney well-being. We're exploring ways of working together.
AND I was invited to speak to a national conference of judges about the movement.
On a more internal note: we have two new vector sponsors at CuttingEdgeLaw.com: Gretchen Duhaime; Founder, Practicing on Purpose LLC "Wellness stewards for the legal profession"
http://www.practicingonpurpose.com is sponsoring the lawyer well-being page which is under development. Jennie Winter is sponsoring the page on the intersection of holistic practice and pro bono work. Stay tuned for these pages in the next few weeks.
AND, after over a year of travel, Michael and I have committed to settling in one place for a few months to get caught up on the web development, editing, and other work that piles up while we're traveling. We have a housesitting/low rent gig in New Mexico near Santa Fe. (Have you noticed how blessed we are? Winter in Key West and now summer and fall in the mountains of New Mexico?) We plan to settle for four months or more and we're on the road on the way there. I'm in Kansas and Michael's in Colorado and we'll be reconvening next week.
By the way, now is still a good time to support our work through a social investment, sponsorship, premium membership, etc.

We're only a couple of thousand of dollars short of having the resources to really settle in and focus on the work that holds this movement together. We're ever so grateful to those who've stepped forward and shown their commitment through financial contributions. It makes a big difference.
