J. Kim Wright's blog
by J. Kim Wright, Publisher of Cutting Edge Law
People often ask me about being location independent. What is that?
It can be described in many ways. I travel all the time. I don't have a home base. I live wherever I am at the moment. My mail comes to a UPS store and they forward it to me wherever I am. My work does not require me to go to an office every day. Instead, it has me traveling around to conferences, speaking engagements, visiting teaching, consulting and to meet interesting and inspiring people.
Yay! We've had some favorable reviews of Lawyers as Peacemakers, Practicing Holistic, Problem-Solving Law!
J. Kim Wright is an ambitious woman. In this comprehensive resource manual, she describes dozens of ways in which lawyers, judges and legal workers across the country (and around the world) are attempting to change their profession for the better. The terms sound hopeful – Holistic Law, Renaissance Law, Transformative Law, Law with a Meditative Perspective. Spiritual Law, Law as a Healing Profession, Restorative Justice, Therapeutic Jurisprudence. Most profoundly, as the title reflects, “Lawyers as Peacemakers.” - Lainey Feingold
As Kim was finishing her book, Michael read Anatomy of Peace by the Arbinger Institute. As soon as Kim hit the send button with the final edits, he insisted that she sit down and read it. "I want to put this book in everyone's hands," said Michael. Kim was also impressed by the book which lay the foundation for the paradigm shift. Since then, we have included a copy in our Premium Membership and have become somewhat evangelical about the book.
Last month we traveled to Utah to meet with the Arbinger Institute. We attended the CLE on Civility (attached) where almost 100 mainstream lawyers went through a transformational process and gave it high marks in the reviews.
We were excited about the connections between Arbinger's and ours and so were they.

The Newsletter of California's statewide organization, "Collaborative Practice California" (Vol. 2010-2) arrived today with David Fink's summary of the recent "Celebration V," (the annual meeting held this year in San Francisco) as a featured article. The Celebration included a remarkable array of pre-conference institutes and conference plenary speakers, and David's article will give those of you who couldn't attend a vivid picture of who and what you missed.
