Marjorie Silver recommends an article on "Emotional Labor"

Professor Marjorie Silver wrote to the TJ listserv about a recommendation for an article: Sofia Yakren, Lawyer as Emotional Laborer, 42 U. Mich. J. L. Reform 141 (2008). (It is available through Westlaw.)

Borrowing from social science literature on Emotional Labor, Ms. Yakren explores how the ethical requirement of zeal in representation may often cause emotional dissonance that likely contributes to lawyers’ high incidence of psychological distress.
