New South Wales Drug Court Celebrates 10th Anniversary
Dr. Michael King posted on the TJ Listserv: The New South Wales Drug Court recently celebrated its 10th anniversary at their annual conference earlier this month! The court also attracted a very favourable article on its work in the Sydney Morning Herald (no longer available in its free section).
Further, research is confirming what the court and others have found that "controlling for other factors, participants in the NSW Drug Court are significantly less likely to be reconvicted than offenders given conventional sanctions (mostly imprisonment)." The latter is from a release concerning a 2008 study by the Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research on recidivism in relation to participants in the program:
Congratulations to Senior Judge Roger Dive, the other judges, the court team and to court participants on a wonderful effort!
