Oregonian Editorial Board Supports Drug Treatment Court
Excerpt from editorial in Oregonian newspaper:
The pioneering drug rehabilitation program, known and copied around the world, is included in a long, long list of possible cuts in services that might be necessary to balance Multnomah County's cratering budget. The cuts on the table include closing jail beds, withdrawing from gang prevention and enforcement, reducing library purchases by 20,000 books, slashing in-home services to the elderly and cutting early childhood programs.
All are grim budget choices. But none is as shortsighted, harmful or just plain wrong as closing the drug court and pitching hundreds of drug addicts back into the traditional justice system, and ultimately, onto the streets of Oregon.
