Base of Operations
Cutting Edge Law publisher J. Kim Wright and videographer Michael Matthews have been nomads since spring, 2008. We pulled up stakes in Asheville, North Carolina, giving up our homes, office and stability to pursue a higher cause. We've conducted over 100 interviews with leaders and pioneers in the movement to transform law to a peacemaking, healing profession. Our work has been honored by the American Bar Association Legal Rebel recognition (for the top 50 changemakers in the profession) and has become an ABA best selling book.
More about who we are:

We operate on a shoestring budget. Low overhead and expenses have allowed us to journey to 28 states in the last 2+ years. We alternate times of intense travel with settled time for editing and special projects.
Our next adventure is to co-create programs with Arbinger Institute in the Salt Lake City, Utah area. The Arbinger Institute authored Anatomy of Peace and Leadership and Self Deception and our work is very compatible. Together we can accomplish even more toward transforming law and creating a world at peace.
Michael and Kim are seeking temporary quarters within driving distance of Salt Lake City. We will consider locations within a day's drive of SLC but prefer to be in SLC. Exact dates are flexible and adjustable. We want to arrive there in late August and to stay at least through November. We may be willing to enter into a short lease.
Our base of operations may be a vacation home, an unused condo or apartment or a house empty due to the slow real estate market. Our previous hosts have appreciated having someone occupy the house, water plants, and pick up mail. In most places, we have been able to trade house-sitting for rent but we'll consider a modest rental. It doesn't have to be fancy. [We're comfortable if it is a little funky.]
Our Preferences & Requirements:
We prefer not to share accommodations with others. Editing is a job that requires deep focus. We sometimes have unusual rhythms - waking early or staying up late to work on projects. We interact with people intensely when we're interviewing and we need respite from social discourse. We do like having access to a community.
We must have access to wireless internet. A strong cell signal is desirable. We can usually install phone or internet if it isn't already there.
We prefer to be in beautiful surroundings with some outdoor space. Michael especially likes to work outside on a porch, patio or deck. We both like to take breaks and walk. We tend to prefer the quiet of the country but like having access to the energy of the city.
We're mostly neat and clean people and we take care of our environs. We do spread out our work into piles from time to time. We've been known to let the dishes sit in the sink overnight and we like to put our feet on the coffee table or even the couch. We understand that house showings must be accommodated and we will leave the house neat and clean when we go. One of our references said she couldn't tell we had been there.
We prefer to have two separate bedrooms with space for our clothes. We prefer to have a kitchen where we can prepare our own food.
Furniture:
Most places we've stayed so far have been furnished. If not, we can be resourceful. In New Mexico, we were able to acquire some inexpensive used furniture that suits us so nicely that Kim took her Goodwill-purchased chair with her to her next destination.
We've been incredibly blessed to find places that met all our requirements and most of our preferences and we're fairly adaptable in making almost any place work.
If you have a space which may be available during some blocks of time, please contact Kim at publisher@cuttingedgelaw.com with information.
Thanks for considering being of service in this way!
