Article of the Month: Empowering Staff in the Holistic Practice of Law by Deborah Miller
When asked how practicing holistic law is different from practicing traditional law, I used to respond by looking at how holistic approaches affect our clients, our community, opposing attorneys, and the attorneys in my firm. Seldom had I thought about what goes on behind the closed doors of our firm-- with our personnel-- as another facet of a holistic practice.
After some deliberation, however, I realized that those within my own firm are impacted the most. After all, they are the ones who spend the most time with me, who see me react to the daily pressures of practicing law. My staff and partners see me at my best but also see me at my worst, and they know how I apply holistic principles to my own life.
