Devils Lake, ND kicks off juvenile drug court
Judge Donovan Foughty says he’s optimistic about what the new juvenile drug court in Devils Lake can do for young people.
Launched last week, the program takes a holistic approach to help kids kick substance abuse problems. An alternative to the regular juvenile judicial system, its participants attend weekly hearings for nine to 12 months.
At those hearings, the court assesses each participant’s progress. With that in mind, the court tries “to develop some sort of consensus of what sort of action should be taken,” Foughty said. “Hopefully, we’re going to be reinforcing the positive things instead of sanctioning the negative acts.”
