The News-Journal reports:
The Gregg County Commissioners Court established a family court drug program Wednesday.
District Judge Robin Sage hopes a new court will be the start of a better future for some area parents.
Sage will preside over the court when it begins by June 1, she said.
Judges in family drug courts meet weekly with parents who are seeking to regain custody of their children. Substance abuse is often a factor in Gregg County parents losing custody of their children, Sage said.
Parents who participate in the program will be tested for drugs at regular intervals and will be required to attend classes on parenting and substance abuse education, County Judge Bill Stoudt said.
The program will be funded with a $40,000 grant from the Greater Longview United Way and $25,000 from county coffers.
